Great Horned Owls
Great Horned Owls are the only owls that hunt skunks. These owls are called flying tigers because these owls are fearless. They are also called hoot owls because of the many sounds they make, like high pitched screeching, and loud hooting. Great Horned Owls can eat 1,000 mice a year. Owls can't chew their prey so they swallow their prey whole which causes them to regurgitate owl pellets. Owl pellets are what the owl can't swallow like bones, claws, teeth, and fur. In January and February Great Horned Owls start nesting. The female lays between 1 to 5 eggs in either a hollowed out tree ,or on a cliff. The great horned owl got its name from the tuffs on top of its head that look like horns. That`s how the Great Horned Owls got their name.
